The widow of late Dim
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Bianca has hired bodyguards and private security
for her Enugu GRA residence. Sources say she may have taken this action to
deter warring family members who want their share of the deceased’s property.
And there are mixed
reactions, as a prominent member of his family is alleging that fellow members
of Ojukwu’s family were targeting the properties he left behind.
However, Debe,
Ojukwu’s eldest son said ‘I will speak in details on the issues of the
family when it is convenient for me. It is not proper to comment on the matter
because Igbo tradition forbids me to do so’.
According to Mr.
Azuka Okwuosa, one of Ojukwu’s closest aides, ‘When a man like Ikemba dies,
you wait for 30 days to say anything about his life and family, otherwise, it
is negating the Igbo tradition. However, what is happening in Ojukwu’s family
is not new, because people agree to disagree. Bianca’s decision is basically
out of choice. The few times I have been to the house to see her; the security
men were not rude to anybody. They will attend to you as long as your mission
is legitimate’ he said.
Meanwhile, Mr.
Bismarck Oji, the former Chairman of Ohaneze Youth Wing berated the family,
saying ‘When a king dies in Igbo land, it is only proper we give one year
interlude before one begins to bring up claim’. Attempts made to speak with
Bianca proved abortive.
Dim Chukwuemeka
Odumegwu Ojukwu died on Sunday, November 26, 2011 in London and was buried in
Nnewi, Enugu State, on Thursday, March 2, 2012.
